On Monday, April 11, 2016, the AIFL Young Professionals had their first event for 2016 with the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute that is going to spur a new era of innovation in New York City in the coming years.

At the event conducted in collaboration with the American Technicon Society, more than 65 young professionals had the chance to hear about the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute on its various aspects, directly from Seth Pinsky who served as Director of Mayor Bloomberg’s Special Initiative for Rebuilding and Resiliency, and Adam Shwartz, the Director of the institute. The entire panel was moderated by Eric Gertler, an AIFL Board member.

The Jacobs Institute academic programs are designed to create tech leadership and talent for specific industries, rather than to reflect academic disciplines. Postdocs pursue commercialization, rather than build an academic career.

The commitment to driving New York City’s economy that was made when Cornell and Technion won the 2011 competition is realized through the Jacobs Institute’s hubs Connective Media, Health Tech and the Built Environment, industry areas that reflect New York City’s global economic strengths.

During the event, the panel members discusses the unique connection between of science and practical implementation the institutes embodies and put a significant emphasis on the important role that the institute possess in the growing academic cooperation between Israel and the United States. In an answer to one of the question, Adam Shwartz revealed that so far about 45 startups have grown out of Cornell Tech.

A non-political community of young committed professionals, Americans and Israelis of various types of expertise, who share passion towards Israel. The community members receive direct access to the AIFL unique people-to-people networking platform.
